The Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering (CEE) and the Department of Chemical Engineering (ChemE) at Stanford University invite applications for an interdisciplinary Postdoctoral Researcher position in the labs of Dr. Meagan Mauter and Dr. William Tarpeh.
πŸ”¬ Research Focus
This position centers on advancing process modeling techniques for the extraction and purification of critical minerals and rare earth elements, with a strong emphasis on innovative electrified methodsβ€”a key frontier for sustainable materials and energy transitions.
πŸ§ͺ Key Responsibilities
Benchmark existing mineral extraction processes and identify opportunities for system-level innovation
Develop detailed process models for electrified extraction & purification (thermodynamics, kinetics, transport)
Optimize process design and control for heterogeneous, non-traditional feedstocks
Integrate modeling with experimental workflows in a highly collaborative team
Publish high-impact research and present at national & international conferences
Mentor graduate and undergraduate researchers
πŸŽ“ Required Qualifications
PhD in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Materials Science, or related fields
Strong expertise in process modeling of chemical/environmental systems
Experience with optimization tools (e.g., WaterTAP) and programming (Python) is highly desirable
Excellent analytical, communication, and teamwork skills
