Prof. Qiuhua Huang plans to hire a PhD student with good background and/or interest in power system transient and dynamic modeling and simulation for power systems with high penetration of IBRs. The student is expected to start in Spring or Fall 2025.
Students with EE (particularly power and energy systems), Physics, CS/scientific computing, or related background are welcome. Good programming skill in Python and/or C++/CUDA is desirable. Good knowledge and experience with simulation tools such as Matlab/Simulink, PSCAD, EMTP, ATP, PSS/E, PSLF, PowerWorld, BPA, PSASP, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSAT, ANDES, InterPSS is expected. Knowledge and experience in AI/ML is a plus.
This student will have many opportunities to directly work with collaborators from national labs, EPRI, ISOs, utilities and researchers from other universities. I usually consider students with a master degree for PhD application with exception for undergraduate students with undergraduate research experience.
