DAAD EPOS (Development-Related Postgraduate Courses) Scholarship Program 2025-27

The DAAD EPOS Scholarship provides full funding for postgraduate study in Germany.
The scholarship is highly competitive and awarded to candidates who show clear development-related motivation and the potential to contribute significantly to positive change in their home countries after graduation. The selection process has two stages. Applicants first apply directly to the relevant university program. Successful candidates are then nominated by the university to DAAD, which makes the final decision on awarding the scholarship.

Scholarship holders usually take part in a German language course lasting from two to six months, even if their program is taught in English. This allows them to gain cultural and linguistic familiarity while studying in Germany.

Benefits:

Financial support includes a monthly stipend of about 992 Euros for Master’s students and 1300 Euros for Doctoral students. The scholarship also covers health, accident, and personal liability insurance, provides a travel allowance, and may include rent subsidies and family support where applicable. Funding for study and research expenses is also available.

Eligibilty Criteria

The DAAD EPOS Scholarship is open to graduates from developing or newly industrialized countries who hold a Bachelor’s degree, usually a four-year program, in a relevant field. Applicants must have at least two years of professional experience gained after completing their first degree. Strong academic performance is required, generally placing the candidate in the top third of their class.
The academic degree should not be older than six years at the time of application.
Candidates who have lived in Germany for more than fifteen months by the deadline are not eligible.

For programs taught in German, applicants need a German language certificate at a minimum of B1 level that is no older than one year, and in many cases, a preparatory six-month German course will be required.

For programs taught in English, applicants must submit proof of English proficiency according to the requirements of the chosen course.

How to apply

To apply for the DAAD EPOS Scholarship, first choose up to three eligible postgraduate programs in Germany. Submit your application directly to the universities before their deadlines, including:

  • Transcripts,
  • CV,
  • Motivation letter,
  • Proof of professional experience, and
  • Language certificates.

Shortlisted candidates are then nominated by the university to DAAD, which makes the final scholarship decision.
