The University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland (SUPSI) invites applications for a PostDoc Researcher in the area of intelligent control of networked systems in the field of machine learning applied to robotic systems, at the Dalle Molle Institute for Artificial Intelligence (IDSIA USI-SUPSI) within the Department of Innovative Technologies (DTI), located in Lugano. The degree of employment is 100%, with a contract starting on 01.01.2026, or on a mutually agreed date.
Duties and responsibilities
- Work on the SNF project ” VR-HRC: Virtual Reality-based Multi-Human-Multi-Robot Collaboration in Industrial Environments” with a focus on learning from demonstrations for multi-robots/multi-users systems in virtual reality environments, including sim2real for real-robot deployment.
- Conduct innovative research in the field of machine learning applied to robotics and collaborative robotics, with an emphasis on learning from demonstrations and generative AI. Target robots: cobots and humanoid robots.
- Design and implement experiments to explore new approaches and techniques in the aforementioned areas.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to tackle complex challenges in related fields.
- PhD students’ supervision.
- Support the LEON robotics team (https://leon.idsia.ch/) in research and application-oriented projects.
- Publish research findings in high-level international conferences and journals.
Requirements
Technical background and skills
- PhD in the field of machine learning and robotics.
- Programming skills (Python, C++, Unity, ROS, ROS2).
- Experience with real robots for experimental tests.
- Good track record of publications.
- PhD students’ supervision.
