PhD position in Quantom Computing in USA

Doctoral Research Assistantships in Quantum Information Systems and Quantum Computing

Synopsis

This research area in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) department at Mississippi State University (MSU) is focused on developing novel Quantum Information Systems (QIS) with an emphasis on quantum algorithms for the optimization, robustness, and security of computer systems. Of interest are research directions to explore mathematical tools utilizing quantum superposition, quantum entanglement, and a variety of quantum algorithmic paradigms for optimization theory.

Financial Support

Selected candidates will be supported through Graduate Research Assistantships at the ECE Department. The stipend will be $2,000-$2,300 monthly with a full tuition waiver and healthcare insurance reimbursement. The Starkville community, which MSU calls home, is a highly affordable and diverse city.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

1. Conduct extensive analysis of the modern literature on quantum information systems.

2. Identify, develop, and implement promising approaches for utilizing quantum superposition and entanglement to improve combinatorial optimization algorithms’ efficiency.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications

1. Earned MS (CGPA> 3.5) degree in electrical engineering or computer engineering. A background in parallelization and optimization of codes.

2. A strong mathematical and analytical knowledge of fundamental concepts in optimization theory.

3. Experience (or at least familiarity) with some of the of machine learning toolboxes.

4. Preference will be given to candidates who have acquired via documented coursework an introductory knowledgebase of at least one of quantum mechanics (preferably, matrix mechanics, the bra-ket Dirac notation beyond the wave mechanics).
